Rare Grainger Lee

Porcelain Great Dane

Dates from 1820-37.

Base measures 2 3/8" x 5".

Height is 2 3/4".  The figure is

in good condition. Two thin glaze

chips on base. Faint impressed

makers mark Grainger Lee & Co.

Worcester under base. No paint

touch-ups. Early Great Dane

Staffordshire figures are rare.

Desk Blotter

A beautiful 19C papier mache desk

blotter with a hand painted scene

of a trio of dogs. Surrounding the

scene is mother-of-pearl inlay.

Ivory buttons are located on each cornerfront and back (one is missing

on the back). Center binding is gone

and tape is holding the blotter

together. Blotter measures

9" in height and 6" wide.

Snuff Box

An antique English paper mache

snuff box, hand painted with a

portrait of a dog by Samuel Raven

(1775-1847). The interior is

inscribed "S. Raven Pinxt.

patronized by H R H The Duke

of Sussex and Prince Leopold".

The box measures 3 5/8" in

diameter and 3/4" in height.

Condition is good. A wonderful

piece of miniature dog art!

There is no visible signature.

The painting measures 17" x 14".

The old gesso and wood frame

has a gold finish and measures

wear and minor chipping.

Painting has overall crazing.

"Master McGrath"

A lovely gold and enamel

pin by William Essex. William Essex

is famous for his dog enamels. In

1839, William Essex was appointed

Enamel Painter in Ordinary to

Princess Augusta, Queen Victoria

and HRH Prince Albert. The dog

Master McGrath was a famous

Irish greyhound who won the

Waterloo Cup three times and

won the hearts of many. As many

as 80,000 spectators would come

just to see him.

C1909. The antique leather dog

collar measures 15 1/2" in length

and 11/2" in width. It is in very

good condition. Leather is soft with

very little cracking. The metal name

plate is engraved, "1909 Ewana

Alsdorf, Central City, Colo."

Beautiful brass spikes and studs.

No missing studs.  Collar is in

amazing condition, considering

it is over 100 years old.

souvenir statue of the famous

Japanese dog known as "Hachiko."

  Measures 3 1/2" long and 3" in

height. It was made to

commemorate the opening of the

Hachiko exhibit at the National

Science Museum in Tokyo, Japan. 

A rare and nearly impossible

pendant by William Bishop Ford.

  Ford was a specialist painter of

miniature enamels, he was a pupil

and assistant of William Essex

who was famous for his dog

enamels.  In 1839, William

Essex was appointed Enamel

Painter in Ordinary to Princess

Augusta, Queen Victoria and

HRH Prince Albert.

The 19C brass dog collar measures

6 1/2" in diameter on the second

slot and 7" on the last slot.  The

collar is 2 3/8" wide.  It is in

very good condition.  Some of

the brass needs cleaned.  Some

minor wear. The collar is inscribed

"Arthur Gillis, Hoegaerdstiaet

Thienen".   The collar has engraved

circus or performing dogs

throughout. A very rare and

unusual collar.
